Statement of Intent

Under the rules and regulations of the IPSO, my magazine front covers, contents pages and website will all follow the editor’s code, to prevent causing offence or harm by releasing misleading material for distribution to the public. For example, my products will not include upsetting images, bad language, or any inappropriate themes. Additionally, I need to keep in consideration that my products will not only be presented to my main target demographic but to everyone. This means that children need to be kept in mind throughout the production process. Despite the product not being aimed for themselves, they may still be exposed to the products, hence no inappropriate themes should be included. This will not deter the main target demographic of female adults aged 30-50 as there will be relevant topics to appeal to their stereotypical interests.

‘Daily Snapshot’ will have two magazine front covers alongside two double-page spreads of contents pages and a website page. The concept behind the name of ‘Daily Snapshot’ is that the magazine is released monthly and each article that is included in the magazine in written on a different day in the month, as the editors experience different things across a variety of topics.

These will all be constructed specifically to appeal to the intended target audience of 30–50-year-old women. The layout of the magazine front covers will be simplistic, with writing such as coverlines, either side of the main image so that it is not distracting from the focus in the middle third. There will be only one main image on the cover so that information is well-focused in the text, rather than in imagery. The price and date will be seen near to the masthead, so that the key, identifiable information is associated with the title of the magazine. The contents pages of the magazine will be symmetrical and clear in layout, so that it is aesthetically pleasing to the eye – giving extra information based on the topics covered within each article. They will also follow elements of the form, where the images will correspond with the article names. These will be linked together with page numbers on the images that are written next to the title of each article. My linked page will also include cover lines to fit the brief, which surround the stereotypical topics associated with lifestyle magazines, currently in general circulation.

Throughout all my products, I need to have a broad representation of society and I can achieve this by including people of different ages, genders and ethnicities in my main images. This will then help to target a wider audience to my magazine, by representing a variety of social groups.

In conclusion, I am going to ensure that the website, magazine covers, and contents pages all link together in their brand identity, fit in with the brief requirements and target the demographic in which I have set.
